I often see this black and palomino in a high grassy field along this steep knoll, so on a sunny summer day I walked up from the road at the bottom to see them in person. These horses spend their days on a slant, there isn’t any level ground to stand on yet they keep a happy grass-munching equilibrium. At first they raised their heads to check me out closely, but went back to swishing flies and working the plentiful grazing. I could then make a string of shots of my “captive audience” and was happiest with this one.
I enjoy the steep slanted hillside carrying the two horses while all else in the image is level, accented by the flat-bottomed clouds and distant mountain line. This idyllic yet unusual summer image was shot in scenic Pennsylvania countryside near my home.
