Cloud Rider #14575
This bit of carnival delight called the Toboggan has been making thrills and squeals for quite a long time being an older ride in an old fashioned amusement park. It’s visually striking and even looks fun, so it was easily natural that I would want to photograph those bright colors pointed up at the sky. I’ve never seen it lit at night which would be fascinating, but all the sunlit color fanfare in front of deep blue with wispy clouds is plenty enough. The park was closed down, but it drew me right over with the camera and tripod just like the magnet for thrill seekers it is.
The ride takes a funny looking car of two people up through the yellow center shaft then lets it go zipping in circles round and round down the track. It’s not a big ride as it fits on two trailers set end to end and was meant to be portable, but I’m sure it can pack plenty of G’s coming around that endless corner while your stomach comes unglued from its mountings and your gall bladder considers mutiny.
It has been living for years in a local amusement park that has many other old school rides, but the place is to be modernized and this ride will probably soon be gone. I hope it’s new home will be a place for rides and fun and not a junkyard, because all it was ever designed to do and needs to do is please people. That ought to be easy enough for a machine such as this…
