The Good Listener
This barn door silhouette shows a young girl talking things through with her horse, getting things off her mind and into words that someone or something will hear. What the heartfelt matter might be we don’t really know, but for many centuries endless tears have been poured into horse’s manes which certainly makes them good listeners. It’s plainly a good thing that horses like us for this and many other things.
I enjoy shooting silhouettes with horses and their people, especially in this stable door opening onto the hills and mountains of a beautiful Pennsylvania summer day. Many silhouetted images such as this one can have good storytelling qualities with impact and deep personal bonds very evident. That’s when the view can become more than just a picture, and here it’s about the strong connection between horse and rider.
